Our Comprehensive Services

In addition to well-known medical treatments for cancers and blood disorders, Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers provides a host of comprehensive services for patients.  These include resources for patients at high risk for certain diseases, psychosocial services, genetic counseling and integrative care.  We invite you to learn more about these areas below.

Not all services are available at all locations.

Breast Cancer and Women at Risk

The High Risk Breast Cancer Program at Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers helps women accurately determine their risk for developing invasive breast cancer and offers a variety of breast cancer risk reduction options to patients. In most cases the patient will meet with our team of experienced medical providers, including a medical oncologist, genetic counselor and nurse practitioner.

Genetic Counseling

Genetic counseling is the process of assessing someone’s personal and family history to determine the likelihood he or she may be at an increased risk of cancer. At Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, a patient begins this process by meeting with one of our genetic counselors and medical oncologists. We will discuss information about hereditary cancer syndromes, screening recommendations for the patient and his or her family as well as available genetic testing options. Our genetic counselors are highly trained and hold Master’s degrees in genetic counseling. They can also discuss issues surrounding inherited blood disorders such as Factor V Leiden, hereditary hemochromatosis and others.

Integrative Care

Integrative cancer care has become increasingly important to many patients. This type of care focuses on the whole person during treatment—mind, body and spirit. Several Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers locations integrate scientifically proven traditional cancer care with evidence-based complementary therapies.

Integrative Oncology Services include:

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine—Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes a range of traditional medical practices such as acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, Chinese herbs and nutrition, Tuina/Acupressure therapy, and Tai-chi movement therapy. Acupuncture works by dispersing or attracting Qi energy along specific points on the meridians in order to restore balance between the yin and yang.

Acupuncture needles are 10 times thinner than hypodermic needles. One can barely feel them when inserted. Most patients experience relaxation and symptomatic relief, and some patients even fall into a restful nap.

Healing Touch and ReikiLifeSpark Cancer Resources is an innovative non-profit organization that brings holistic care to cancer patients. Healing Touch and Reiki, two methods of energy therapies, provide care and support for individuals with cancer through light hands-on touch. Energy therapies complement medical treatment by promoting deep relaxation and a sense of well-being. LifeSpark practitioners offer.

Healing Touch and Reiki to individuals over the age of 18 diagnosed with or recovering from cancer. Fees are based upon household income, ranging from $1-$25 per weekly session.

Massage Therapy—Certified medical massage therapists provide patients with massage therapy services free of charge at select locations. Massage services may be offered during and after your treatment to ease your pain, soothe your muscle tension and reduce your discomforts of nausea, insomnia and fatigue. Massage therapy is proven to increase your energy, decrease your anxiety and strengthen your immune system’s response.

Nutritional Counseling—Nutrition can play a vital role in supporting your immune system and helping your body fight and prevent cancer. At some locations, a registered dietician is ready to assist you through free nutritional counseling services. The registered dietician specializes in oncology medical nutrition therapy. The dietician is available to help you meet your nutritional goals and to provide you with nutritional education for cancer treatment, recovery and prevention. In addition, our experienced specialist will offer guidance in metabolic nutritional needs during and after treatment, menu planning, weight management education and nutrient recommendation with other disease states (diabetes, renal failure, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc.). Recommendations on vitamins, herbal remedies, loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss, food and medication interactions and evidence-based nutritional guidelines will also be covered.

The Seven Levels of Healing Program®—The Seven Levels of Healing Program® is a seven-week educational and support program to help patients, family members, and loved ones navigate the journey through cancer as skillfully and effectively as possible. The program is free and is open to any adults in the community who have been touched by cancer. Programs run throughout the year.
